Hello Faith Based Organization,
I am Richard Patton, Army OneSource Community Support Coordinator for South Mississippi. If I may have a few minutes of your time to discuss the Army OneSource Faith Base Focus for our Soldiers and Family Members.
.  Army OneSource recently rolled out an initiative to engage mental health providers and others in assisting the 1.4 million or more Soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with their behavioral health issues and their Families issues as a result of the multiple deployments, combat duty, and everyday life issues as they re-enter back into their home life. Almost all Veterans will return from deployment with some type of behavioral health issue.
Those issues can be minor and may dissipate over time, such as combat stress, hyper- vigilance and depression, or they can be chronic conditions that need formal, long-term treatment, such as post-traumatic stress disorder. These Soldiers, Veterans and their Families also suffer from the spiritual and emotional impacts of war, such as altered sense of meaning of (or in) life, questioning of their faith, confusion about core ethical beliefs, and feelings of guilt.
The reason for my email is that we rolled out a second initiative to reach out to the faith-based organizations, and individual congregations to invite them to participate in activities that support Soldiers and Families with whom they come into contact, such as Veterans or their Family Members who attend services at their church or live in the area.   The ultimate goal is to make connections between local congregations and national programs that we have identified, to facilitate services through the congregation and their members to these Soldiers, Veterans and their Families.
Army OneSource chose faith-based organizations for this outreach because of the potential impact they could have, based on the fact that there are approximately 360,000 churches in the United States and they are located everywhere, including even remote rural areas where many Soldiers, Veterans and their Families live but don’t have access to all the services and assistance they need.
I would like to schedule a meeting with you so that we may discuss Army OneSource Mobilizing Faith Communities. In the attachment, you will find information in more detail, the problems our Soldiers and Family Members are enduring due to the many deployments. As a Retired Soldier and veteran of the IRAQ war, I have a passion to help my fellow Soldiers and their Family Members deal with these times of need. The attachment will have a link to a course called Treating the Invisible Wounds of War. This course is designed to build awareness for identifying, assessing and treating mental health problems that result from the trauma of war. The access code to access the course is below.
